Beames, Elizabeth Foote, 1850-1933
Biography
Elizabeth Jane Foote Beames was a daughter of William Hayward Foote and Sarah Emmerina Venable in a family of nine children. She was born February 1, 1850 in Mouton, Lawrence, Alabama. Elizabeth married Warren Tollison “Tolly” Beames on February 1, 1870 in Mouton, Alabama. They had four children, Lulah, William, Ada, and Emma, while living in Mouton, Alabama. Their daughter Lulah passed away at the age of one in 1872, in Mouton, Lawrence, Alabama. Beames moved to Washington, Utah sometime around 1884, where her son Claude was born. Her sixth child Blueford was born in Leeds, Utah in 1891.
Her great grandson LaVarr Webb, of St. George, Utah, writes that Elizabeth was a short lady about five foot two, she was a great cook, and was as quick as the chickens that she cared for. She gave her restless grandchildren nails and a hammer telling them to pound the nails into the wooden floor just inside of her front door. Those nails remained in the floor for all to see. Beames lived in the Southern Utah area until her death on July 9, 1933, as a result of shock in a roll over car accident, at the age of 83. She was buried in the Virgin, Utah cemetery.
