Biography

Cleone Davenport was born in St. George, Utah in 1936 to parents Archibald Douglas and Beatrice Larson Wallis. Cleone had four siblings. She married Erwin Orlo Davenport; the couple had 5 children, 29 grandchildren, and 27 great-grandchildren. Cleone passed away in St. George in September of 2018. In her youth, Cleone did ballet, played softball, and was on the Dixie College basketball team. As an adult, Cleone was an aide at East Elementary where she taught children how to read. She also volunteered at the Daughter of Utah Pioneers museum, which is a a non-sectarian, non-political organization of female descendants of Utah pioneers dedicated to preserving their heritage. Cleone served at the Dixie/Manamas Andrus Camp. Here, she shared her knowledge of history with the community. Cleone also spent spent many hours making local history scrapbooks.
