Scope and Contents
The Southern Paiute news clippings collection (approx. 1957-1980) consists of newspaper, magazine, and other publication clippings, including obituaries; correspondence, photographs, documentation of the Moapa Band of Paiute Indians and Las Vegas Tribe of Paiute Indians, and a certificate collected by Mary Manning, a Las Vegas Sun reporter. Most of the clippings are from Las Vegas, Nevada newspapers and pertains to the Moapa Band of Paiute Indians of the Moapa River Indian Reservation and/or the Las Vegas Tribe of Paiute Indians of the Las Vegas Indian Colony, Nevada. The clippings document reservation educational, economical, and infrastructure development, legal concerns, and other everyday life. The historical documents include an informal census of both reservation communities.
