Scope and Contents
This collection documents the Dixie College’s Faculty and Staff Newsletters published for the faculty and staff at Dixie College in the years 1990-2013. They are arranged into four series.
The English Department Newsletter Series contains newsletters highlighting the English Department including: the Writing Center's tutors, Southern Quill, local authors, and honorable students and community members.
The Roundtable Series contains the Roundtable Staff Association Newsletters. The newsletters were printed in the spring, fall and winter of each year at Dixie College in St. George, Utah. The newsletters document the Staff Association’s; board, committees, employee policies, raise proposals, employee awards and recognition, events, staff membership report and report from the staff association president. They are dated from 1992-1995 and are arranged in chronological order.
The Staff Association Newsletter Series contains the Staff Association Newsletters and the Staff Association Constitution and By-Laws. The newsletters were printed in the Spring and Fall of each year at Dixie College in St. George, Utah. They contain business meeting agenda and news regarding the Staff Association’s; committee, awards, recognition, achievements of the year, social events, and a message from the college president. They are dated from 1990-2013 and are arranged in chronological order.
The Vantage Point Newsletter Series contains the Vantage Point Faculty & Staff Newsletters documenting the announcements, events, changes and growth happening at Dixie College in the years 1989-2006 in St. George, Utah. The newsletters were printed bi-monthly from Fall to Spring of each school year. The articles in the newsletters are campus related regarding new programs, faculty/staff awards, college council updates, new faculty/staff, announcing retiring employees, commencement
speaker, board of trustee news, and the college president’s message. They are arranged in chronological order.

Biographical / Historical
Dixie State University was established in 1911 as St. George Stake Academy with the original campus on the northwest corner of Main Street and 100 South in Saint George, Utah. The original building for the campus remains, and is currently the St. George Children’s Museum. The name for the institution changed two years after its creation to Dixie Academy in 1913 and kept this name until 1916. The name changed again to Dixie Normal College during 1916-1923. 1923-1972 the name changed to Dixie Junior College. In 1963, the campus moved to its current location at 225 South 700 East in Saint George. At the time of the move, the campus was on the edge of town. Dixie College was the name from 1972-2000 and then became Dixie State College of Utah from 2000-2013. In 2013, the name changed to Dixie State University and currently retains that moniker. The population of St. George was 1769 in 1910 and 2271 in 1920. In 1990, 28,502 was the population in St. George. In 2010, the population was 72,897. The first graduating class of St. George Stake Academy was in 1913 and it had 13 students. In 2014, 1630 students graduated with bachelors and associate’s degrees.
