Dixie College Non-Competitive Title III Grants
Scope and Contents
This file contains various applications, reports, memos, and correspondences about Dixie College's funding from the Department of Education non-competitive grants. These grants were need/evidence based. DC sought to expand it's outreach in the southwestern area of Utah, southeastern Nevada, and northern Arizona. It looked to Snow College, who had successfully implemented a Title III grant.
Dixie College was awared $151,866 to fund the programs for "Strengthening Developing Institutions Aid, Part A 4-7", with the grant project director being Donald C. Whittaker. Some of the targeted areas of the application were library computer resources, bolster minority student attendance, increase student rodeo programs, develop academic advising system, curriculum development, and a displaced homemaker retraining program.
Dixie College applied for continuing grant funding, and in the years between 1987-1989 sought an additional institutional strengthening, "Strengthening Native American Program", section A 4-7, in order to develop an Indian Center with facilities to counsel and advise Native American students, develop an orientation program for them, fund professional development for faculty to better understand and meet the needs of DC's Native American students, and visit high schools on reservations. The goal of the funding was to increase retention by a minimum of ten percent through the outlined planned goals.
