The scrapbooks that are in this collection provide pictures, programs, flyers, and other memorabilia from the events and the members who attended. Biographical / Historical
The Southwest Concert Series began in 1958 by Ron Garner who was soon joined by Robert Dalton and later Gail Bunker. It all began as a private undertaking to bring professional and world-renown performing artists to Saint George, Utah. Over the years, it has grown and become a success. In 1985, the Southwest Concert Series was renamed the Celebrity Concert Series. In 1987, the concert series became a part of Dixie State University. The Southern Utah Art Guild was founded by Charles Manley Brown in 1985, and was originally known as the Southwest Guild. When Bunker was manager (1995-2014) she added variety to the programming from previous years, including: the Special Artist Series- a recital concert program that had five or six events. The tradition has continued on throughout the years. The Celebrity Concert Series is held in Southern Utah, at Dixie State University, in the Cox Performing Arts building. Each year the Board of Directors for the Celebrity Concert Series chooses the season’s programming with the aim of scheduling the best concerts within the annual budget. Some of the events throughout the years include: St. Petersburg Ballet with Galina Mezentseva, The Brothers Four, The Nylons, Albert McNeil Jubilee Singers, Western Opera Theater, Turtle Island and Montreux, and many more.
