Dixie College slides
Scope and Contents
This collection documents Dixie College in the eyes of a student. This collection includes slides, negatives and film taken by students during their time at Dixie College from 1959 to 1999.
The contents of the slides and negatives include the following six series: athletics, active learning, events, campus, clubs, and student life. Each series is divided into categories that are consistent with the photos within the collections.
Series 1 has both negatives and slides of athletics in 1977 to 1996. Series 1 consists of: Baseball, Basketball, Cheer/Rebelettes, Football, Golf, Powderpuff, Soccer, Softball, Tennis, and Volleyball.
Series 2 is Campus/Classroom and is full of slides and negatives of Dixie College’s campus and inside of classrooms in 1975-1994. Series 2 consists of: Active Learning, Faculty Photos, Fitness, Campus/Classroom, Nature/ Structures, and Speaking on Campus.
Series 3 has images of Clubs at Dixie College such as: Band, Polynesian Club, Radioshow, Service Project, Theater, and Yearbook pertaining to 1987, as well as some slides and negatives that are undated.
Series 4 is Events which is the largest series in this collection with contents from 1967 to 1999. The events included in this series are: 5K Marathon, Art Show, Carnival Welcome Week, Cultural Ceremony, Dances, D-Week, Elections, Graduation, Homecoming, Homecoming Football Game, Hypnotist, Events, Men’s Week, Mr. and Mrs. Dixie, Parades, Red Ribbon, Rodeo, Taco Eating Contest, and Welcome Week.
Series 5 is Student Life 1959-1989 which includes: Single Person Photos, Student Activities, Students Relaxing, and Random Photos.
Series 6 is Movies which is film that includes contents pertaining to St. George public events such as: Air Shows, Dixie College, Events, Gold Tournaments, Governor Arrival, Public Service Announcement, and the local Rodeo that took place within the years 1965 and 1978.

Biographical / Historical
Dixie College was established in 1911 as St. George Stake Academy with the original campus on the northwest corner of Main Street and 100 South in Saint George, Utah. The original building for the campus remains, and is currently the St. George Children’s Museum. The name of the institution changed two years after its creation to Dixie Academy in 1913 and kept its name until 1916. The name for the institution changed again to Dixie Junior College during 1923-1972. In 1963, the campus was moved to its current location at 225 South 700 East in Saint George. Dixie College was the name from 1972-2000 and then became Dixie State College of Utah from 2000-2013. In 2013, the name changed to Dixie State University. Today, Dixie State University has an acceptance rate of 100% and 85% of Dixie State University 2016 graduates were employed or entering graduate school within a year. Dixie State has also been ranked as the fifth on CNBC’s list for the top ten most affordable small colleges in the nation. Dixie State also ranked in the top 50 of the safest campuses in the United States.

Abstract
This collection consists of slides, negatives, and movie reels that are related to Dixie College in St. George, Utah. They cover the years 1959-1999.

The Dixie College slides are arranged in six series. Series 1. Athletics, 1977-1996. Series 2. Campus/Classroom, 1975-1994. Series 3. Clubs, 1987, undated. Series 4. Events, 1967-1999. Series 5. Student Life, 1959-1989. Series 6. Movies, 1965-1978.
