Saint George (Utah)

The Murdock Aerial Photography collection contains photographic proof prints, negatives, slides, and CDs of Southern Utah and surrounding areas created by Clinton and Joan Murdock from 1982-2005, primarily for use by local planning commissions and companies developing in the region.

This collection consists of a collection of newspapers published in Utah from 1869-1985. It contains a variety of newspapers from St. George, Bloomington, Silver Reef, and Salt Lake City, Utah.

This collection is composed of postcards with images of sights and tourist attractions in the larger Southern Utah area and Saint George, Utah more specifically.

The R. Wayne Pace collection contains papers related to Dr. Pace’s participation in the St. George Lawn Bowl Club, Sons of Utah Pioneers (SUP), the St. George sandstone quarry project with the Dixie Encampment Chapter, one of his professional publications in the Human Resource field, and the manuscript regarding Chesley G. Peterson written by Creed M. Evans, M.D, and edited by Pace.

This collection consists of government and school records, newspapers articles, census data, some interviews and personal stories, images, and photocopies used by Douglas D. Alder and and Karl F. Brooks in writing their book A History of Washington County: From Isolation to Destination. Notes from the two researchers as well as a draft of the book are present as well.

The Saint George Area Chamber of Commerce collection consists of the Saint George Area Chamber of Commerce files, events, local area and business information, chamber newsletters, newspaper articles and photographs including many that are digitized. The collection is from 1977-2015, and was created and organized by the Saint George Area Chamber of Commerce in St. George, Utah.

The Sons of Utah Pioneers, Cotton Mission Chapter collection contains papers related to the chapter with historical information files and chapter business from 1950-2016, with annual histories, minutes, photographs, and other miscellaneous documents. There are also printing samples from Charles Ellis Johnson from 1875 to 1896.

The records of the St. George and Washington Canal Company span the years of 1887-1955. The collection contains the financial and business records of the company, as well as their meeting minutes and correspondence. The Washington Field Canal Company records document the merger (1900-1901) of the company into its current corporate body.

The St. George Area Visitor’s Guide magazines collection consists of eight magazines documenting the tourism in southwestern Utah including maps, history, events, dining, lodging, shopping, tours, hiking etc. in St. George, Utah and surrounding areas. The collection is from 1988-2019.

The St. George City collection consists of business records, financial records, power production and requirements for the St. George City Municipal Power Plant. It also contains the program, photographs and newspaper articles of the Utah Centennial Celebration Pageant for St. George, Utah. The collection is from 1940-2000.
