Schmutz, Richard A., 1925-
Biography
Richard A. Schmutz was born in St. George in 1925, and passed away in 2017 at the age of 91. He attended Dixie Junior College and graduated in 1951. Schmutz then attended Brigham Young University, for two semesters. He attended the University of Southern California, where he earned a PhD in Medieval European History. Schmutz taught history at the University of New Mexico and at Brigham Young University. He was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all of his life. Schmutz served as bishop of the BYU 128th Ward from 1980-1983. He served a mission in at the Switzerland Temple from 1994-1996, where he was also a member of the Swiss Temple Presidency. He also performed temple sealing's in the St. George Utah Temple.
