Biographical Statement
Isaac Chauncey Macfarlane was born in Cedar City Utah November 3 1855 a son of John Menzies and Ann (Chatterly) Macfarlane. His father was called to the Dixie Mission in 1868. He was married in the St. George Temple to Hephzibah Smith, January 5, 1877; after bearing him five children, his wife died March 6, 1891 in St George, Utah. She was the daughter of Charles Smith, by his second wife Eliza Matthews. On March 16, 1892 he married Christina Forsyth in the St. George Temple, and by this wife had three children.
He served the public in many capacities, his first big work being as engineer and supervisor of the Washington dam and canal. He was also engineer for the LaVerkin tunnel and canal, the Hurricane dam and canal, and the Enterprise reservoir canal. He was county engineer for many years and was city engineer at the time of his death. As an engineer he proved his good judgment, and cool and careful deliberation to his work and when decided went ahead. He served as Mayor of St. George City from January of 1894 to January of 1896 and from January of 1904 to January of 1906; City Councilman; Washington County Commissioner; member of the first Utah State Land Commission under Governor Wells; was Washington County School trustee, and on nearly all committees to locate roads.
Christina died on September 12, 1950 and Isaac passed away on May 23, 1921 in St George, Utah.
