Biographical/Historical note
Cuba Lyle was born in Newport, Washington to Joseph Peter Berneck and Nellie (Hepburn) Berneck in 1908. With her first husband, Theodore Vander Weyst she had her first daughter, Joy (Vander Weyst) Atkin. In 1936, she married George Albert Hall, Jr., a widower with six children living in Northern Idaho. They moved to Washington, Utah not long afterwards. She became actively involved in the community and schools. In 1950, she lost her second husband to a two year terminal illness. Eighteen months later, Cuba married LeRoy Lyle. They operated the Liberty Café in St. George, Utah for eight years and sold out only to see “Roy” succumb to acute Leukemia. During her life in Washington County, she was an active local historian and participated in a variety of local planning and historical committees including the county Agricultural Planning Committee, Centennial History Committee, and the County Fair Board. She continued her community involvement until her death in 2000.

Abstract
The Cuba Lyle papers comprise historical and personal research, including photocopies of documents and newspaper clippings accompanied by notes; correspondence; photographs; newspaper clippings on the filming; call sheets for filming; a guest book of Hollywood crew and actors; and an assortment of commemorative brochures and programs.
Arrangement
The collection is arranged into series by topic and then by type of material as appropriate. Items in Series III may be related to items in Series II; it was difficult to establish exactly what research material had been used for any given project and in many cases it may have been used for multiple projects. With this in mind, the archivist deemed it most useful to combine Cuba Lyle's historical research into a single series.
Separated Materials
Photocopies of published materials were discarded, including numerous articles on various historical subjects clipped from local newspapers. Any articles pertaining to specific material or subjects in the collection were retained.
